Workshop Agenda & Descriptions

Workshop 1:
Floral Iridescence: Chrysanthemum

Use the expressive power of pastels to unveil the beauty of the bright and showy chrysanthemum. In this class, Anne will demonstrate how to kickstart your creative process with journaling techniques that will help you get acquainted with your floral subject. You'll then see how starting with an iridescent underpainting technique creates a shimmering foundation for the painting. You'll learn about a tetradic color palette and how it can be used to achieve a balanced and vibrant interplay of hues. Join Anne and discover how to embrace intuitive mark-making to create a one-of-a-kind floral composition.

Workshop 2:
Floral Fluorescence: Pansy

To capture the essence of this cheerful flower, you'll begin with journaling techniques to help you explore and connect with the pansy's form and personality. Then Anne will demonstrate the creative power of a fluorescent underpainting to create glowing color effects. You'll also explore color techniques that can create glorious harmonies and learn to employ the unique qualities of pastel to paint a pansy with energy and expression.

Workshop 3:
Floral Opacity: Rose

Join Anne in a creative exploration of the magnificent rose. Beginning with journaling exercises that explore the distinct character of the bloom's structure, Anne will introduce another underpainting option that uses opaque color to create a rich foundation for the rose. Explore the world of color, and how a simple palette of two complementary color pairs can add vibrancy to your painting of this spectacular flower.

Workshop 4:
Floral Translucence: Poinsettia

Nothing says "joy" like an exuberant poinsettia, and this workshop will help you capture that spirit using Anne's expressive pastel techniques. Starting with journaling techniques meant to deepen connections to the subject, Anne will continue with a demonstration of a translucent underpainting approach that sets up a sheer foundation on which to build with pastel. Discover methods for ensuring a rich and vibrant interplay of color, and a lively use of mark-making that allows for a distinct and dazzling interpretation of the flower.
